This morning, I awoke to the entire F1 community ablaze, and I quickly figured out why. Multiple credible sources were saying that Lewis Hamilton was planning to move to Ferrari in 2025. Most people, including myself, didn't seem to believe it, but as more and more evidence came out, opinions began to shift. Then, at around 2 pm EST, the official statements were released, confirming what we all had been speculating.
This decision seemed to come out of nowhere, leaving many people speculating that Hamilton wasn't happy with this year's Mercedes car or the team's direction and decided to jump ship. It appears as though he jumped from one sinking ship to another, unless Ferrari has made some serious developments this year.
With the sudden revelation, numerous questions have been raised, with possibly the biggest one being, where is Carlos Sainz planning to go? There are rumors about a deal with Audi, indicating he could move to Sauber in anticipation of that. Sainz posted on social media, stating, "News about my future will be announced in due course."
Another significant question that comes up is, who will go to Mercedes? The circulating rumors suggest that Mercedes has set their sights on Fernando Alonso. There is also the possibility of Alex Albon, who has proven his abilities, even in the Williams car, Esteban Ocon, who was a Mercedes junior driver, Mick Schumacher, who has been without an F1 seat, and it's even possible for Mercedes to bring up Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes junior driver racing in F2 this year, though that's less likely."
It seems as though silly season has started early this year, and with the way things are going it seems that this is only the beginning of the madness.
